Dubai Water Canal

Among the monumental urban transformations in human history, the Dubai Water Canal transformed the Emirate and made history. In the Old Quarter of the city, the Dubai Creek is connected back to the Arabian Gulf with the Canal, giving it a whole new waterfront. It took three years to be completed. This milestone extends 3.2 km long and 6.4 km waterfront. Dubai is a magnificent city, and this development only enhances its beauty.

The Dubai Canal is an artificial waterway unveiled on 2 October 2013 and opened on 9 November 2016. Architectural firm AE7 Architects and Planners designed this development. In addition to the canal sidewalk, there is a shopping mall, four hotels, 450 restaurants, luxury housing, and pathways and cycle paths. It is even visible from the Promenade.

Starting at Business Bay, it extends through Safa Park and Jumeirah to the Persian Gulf. The width varies between 80 meters (262 feet) and 120 meters (393 feet). This body of water is 6 meters (20 feet) deep and can be crossed with 8 meters (26 feet) high bridges.

Three pedestrian and bicycle bridges span the canal, including the Bridge of Tolerance, built on November 15, 2017, by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

In addition to creating new public spaces, it offers commercial and recreational facilities with a total area of 80,000 square meters. The canal provides an access to move in the city by boat. Furthermore, it has some elevators for people’s convenience.
